David Esposti, a longtime staff representative with CWA Canada who retired seven years ago, has died after a lengthy illness. He was 74.

In a note to Locals, CWA Canada President Martin O’Hanlon described Esposti as a proud native of Sault Ste Marie, Ont., a “deft negotiator and always quick with a smart remark.” He noted that “Dave was very ill for the last few years with little mobility after back surgery in 2015.”

O’Hanlon said the union would hold a tribute to him at its next National Representative Council meeting.

According to his obituary, Esposti died May 23 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Toronto with his family and private personal caregiver by his side.

“David had a strong mental fortitude, unshakeable willpower, a generous spirit, and a big heart. He will be deeply missed.”

A private family celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

(CWA Canada invites friends and colleagues to send remembrances of David Esposti directly to Web Editor Deborah Richmond at drichmond@cwacanada.ca. They will be compiled and published in the near future.)
