2022.01.14

Labour journalist and author Sarah Jaffe will moderate a virtual forum on organizing in the media and cultural sectors on Jan. 20 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

CWA Canada partnered with Cultural Workers Organize to arrange the forum Collective Action Works: Inside the Movement to Organize Media and Culture. It will be hosted by the Global Labour Research Centre at York University. (Register to receive the Zoom link.)

It will feature worker-organizers from unions at Canadaland, The New Yorker, HuffPost, Oxford University Press, and the Brooklyn Academy of Music. They will discuss what has been won through collective bargaining, what is sustaining the push to organize amid the pandemic, and how equity goals are reflected in their campaigns.

The event marks the launch of a short video, Organizing Digital Media, and the book New Media Unions: Organizing Digital Journalists, by Nicole S. Cohen (University of Toronto) and Greig de Peuter (Wilfrid Laurier University).
