Winners of memorial scholarships announced

Essays submitted by Rhiannon Hoffman and Natalie Capretta have been selected as the 2020 winners of the $1,000 John Belcarz & Dan Zeidler Memorial Scholarships. An Honourable Mention went to Allana Zettler-Nakasmook.

All three are related to members of the Canadian Media Guild, CWA Canada’s largest Local (30213).

Natalie Capretta, who wrote about the power of labour unions to improve conditions for all workers, will be attending the University of Toronto this fall. She is the daughter of Roberto Capretta, who works at CBC Toronto in media production services.

Rhiannon Hoffman, who will be attending the University of Toronto (Mississauga campus), is the daughter of Kent Hoffman, a producer at CBC Radio in Toronto. Her essay was about the need to redefine and prioritize social justice.

Allana Zettler-Nakasmook, who will be attending the University of Alberta, is the daughter of Susie Zettler, a researcher with CBC in Yellowknife.
